When the big kahunas of the mytaste site get together for a great council of chiefs meeting over dinner, they choose to dine at only the best restaurant right? Damn right!

So it was that the 3 of us were looking for a place with fantastic food, fantastic atmosphere, and fantastically friendly staff, and if you are in Byron Bay the dining experience at the top of the list of Restaurants that fit this criteria has to be... the Cypress Tree!

Prior to being invited in ... read more there by some Cypriot friends of mine who were holidaying from Adelaide, it was always one of those places that I thought of going to, but decided against because I didnt know what Cypriot food really was. Well! I can tell you that Cypriot food is like this... mountains of salad, peppers stuffed with rice and other yummy stuff, calamari, lasagna, skewers of lamb and chicken, and the worlds best holumi fritters. Oh yeah! Fantastic!

Since my first time I would say that I have dined there... oh... about 50 times :)

I have been to weddings that they have catered and I have asked them to cater for an Annual General Meeting for my business. Every time the Cypress Trees has delivered outstanding food.

- a peak at the 3 mytaste directors (notice the smiles on our faces caused by the great food)
- the aftermath of the feeding frenzy that took place on this night, and
- a pic of a superb drop of red (a Mclaren Vale 2000 Dead Arm Shiraz...and yes that is a piece of octopus that somehow attached itself to the bottle... obviously flung across the table by one us while gorging ourselves on the fine food on offer)

Located in Bay Lane behind the famous Beach Hotel in Byron Bay you will find this fabulous Greek BYO restaurant run by a husband and wife team. The food is always fresh and flavorsome. My personal favorite on the menu is the traditional mezze plate which comes pilled high with calamari,octopus, chicken and lamb skewers, greek lasagna, haloumi fritters, dolmades, dip, a rice dish, 2 pasta dishes and salad with feta and olives.
